Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) Consultant to assist in the development of an operating financial model tailored to drive budgeting and strategic decision-making for our rapidly growing technology company client. The Consultant will work under the direction of the Interim Controller of the client to build a financial forecast incorporating the key performance drivers of the business.

No specific accounting software experience but only deep Excel and Financial Modeling expertise is very important. Experience with technology companies with a focus on professional services is preferred.

Core Deliverables and Responsibilities

Deliverable: Financial Model Development:

  • Collaborate closely with the Interim Controller to understand the company's strategic objectives, growth plans, and key performance drivers.
  • Clearly define the objectives of the financial model, such as supporting strategic decision-making, forecasting future financial performance, or evaluating investment opportunities.
  • Determine the scope of the model, including the time horizon, level of detail, and specific metrics to be analyzed.
  • Collect historical financial data, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to establish a baseline for analysis.
  • Gather relevant operational data, such as sales forecasts, production volumes, pricing strategies, and customer acquisition costs.
  • Identify key assumptions that will drive the financial model, such as revenue growth rates, expense margins, capital expenditure requirements, and working capital cycles.
  • Determine the structure and format of the financial model, including the layout of worksheets, tabs, and interconnected formulas.
  • Organize the model into logical sections, such as revenue projections, expense forecasts, cash flow statements, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Establish clear labels and documentation for each input, calculation, and output to enhance transparency and ease of use.
  • Develop formulas and calculations to project future financial performance based on the collected data and assumptions.
  • Implement formulas for revenue forecasts, cost of goods sold (COGS), operating expenses, depreciation, taxes, and other relevant financial metrics.
  • Incorporate dynamic formulas and scenario analysis capabilities to model different business scenarios and outcomes.
  • Test the integrity and accuracy of the financial model by running sensitivity analyses, stress tests, and scenario simulations.
  • Verify that formulas and calculations are working correctly and producing reliable results under different assumptions and scenarios.
  • Validate the outputs of the model against historical data, industry benchmarks, and management expectations to ensure alignment and reasonableness.
  • Document all assumptions, methodologies, and sources of data used in the financial model to provide transparency and facilitate future updates or revisions.
  • Clearly explain the rationale behind key assumptions and modeling decisions to enable stakeholders to understand and critique the model effectively.
  • Create user guides or documentation to help users navigate and utilize the financial model efficiently.
  • Incorporate feedback and iterate on the financial model to address any issues, enhance usability, and increase the model's effectiveness in supporting decision-making.
  • Regularly update the financial model to reflect changes in the business environment, such as new market dynamics, regulatory requirements, or strategic shifts.
  • Ensure the financial model is flexible, user-friendly, and scalable to accommodate future growth and evolving business requirements.
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on how to use and interpret the financial model effectively for budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making purposes.

Deliverable: 13-week Cash flow forecast model:

  • Work closely with the Interim Controller to gather relevant data and assumptions for the 13-week cash flow forecast.
  • Design and implement a robust framework for forecasting short-term cash flows, considering factors such as customer payment cycles, vendor payment terms, inventory management, and working capital requirements.
  • Develop detailed cash flow projections for the next 13 weeks, incorporating both inflows and outflows of cash with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
  • Identify potential cash flow gaps or liquidity challenges and propose strategies to mitigate risks and ensure adequate liquidity to support ongoing operations.
  • Collaborate with the Interim Controller to optimize cash management practices, including cash repatriation, investment of excess cash, and debt financing arrangements.
  • Regularly monitor actual cash flow performance against forecasted projections, identify variances, and communicate findings to senior management for timely decision-making.

Experience -5+ Years

Its a Part time Job and will gradually increase the time. Could start from 10 hours per week to 20-30 hrs.
